About Helen How & her training at the European School of Osteopathy

Edinburgh osteopath Helen How has been sucessfully treating patients at the How Osteopathic Clinic (Trinity, Edinburgh) for over twenty five years.

A  Registered Osteopath, Helen combines the latest advances in osteopathy with a gentle patient-centred approach to diagnosis and treatment ensuring that osteopathic treatment at the How Clinic is suitable for a wide-range of conditions including; back pain, neck pain, sports injury, arthritis and repetitive strain injury.

Treatment at the How Osteopathic Clinic is tailored to the individual and where necessary uses a combination of osteopathic techniques including, Traditional Osteopathy, Cranial Osteopathy and Myofascial Unwinding as trained by Professor John Upledger Robert Lever Harold Klug at the European School of Osteopathy.

Osteopathic Study

Hands on principles and techniques start on one`s first day of attending an Osteopathic College and the use of palpation and feeling different tones in the Muscular Skeletal System is only one part of the training to become a fully qualified Osteopath.

Her additional fields of study and osteopathic training at  the European School of Osteopathy School included; General Osteopathic Treatment (Littlejohn / Wernham), Specific Adjusting Techniques (Bradbury / Dummer), Soft – Tissue Techniques, Articulatory Techniques, High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust Techniques, Functional Techniques, Muscle Energy Techniques, Neuro – Muscular Techniques (Lief), Ventral Techniques, Lymphatic Techniques, Visceral Manipulation (with Chapman’s Reflexes), and Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. A few years later Balanced Ligamentous Tension was added on to the ESO armamentarium
An early adopter of Electrotherapy and Vibrotherapy, seven years ago Helen was introduced and trained in the use of Shockwave Therapy and evidence based quality rehabilitation techniques and exercises by the Physiotherapist Cliff Eaton.

Shockwave Therapy

As a result of her interest and continued training in Focused Shockwaves and Electromagnetic Therapy, Helen was invited to join a team of specialist Shockwave Tutors who were trained by Storz Medical Expert Tutors in Switzerland.

Now a member of the Vennhealthcare Shockwaves Educators for the UK Helen provides a comprehensive educational and treatment program using Shockwaves as part of her osteopathic treatments. This enables people from all walks of life to benefit from osteopathic and rehabilitation treatments which had hitherto been the preserve of elite sportsmen and sports woman.
